Downloading the cvsnt repository via ssh takes about 10 seconds over the
LAN, and that's hosted on a Celeron 466 (obviously slightly longer
remotely).

The speed of the server makes a difference, as it's encrypting on the fly,
but it's generally not as bad as you're seeing.
