VS6 has other problems eg. its STL is nonstandard.  It's unlikely the 
code will compile with it now (I've been on VS.NET since 2002).

Unix is well catered for with autoconf.  It should even be possible to 
persuade cvsnt to compile under cygwin (not sure why you'd want to though).
