Glen, thanks for the answer. Yes the server (Win2K3) had a problem, I
found a Dr Watson error in the event viewer and the dmp files started at
the time
Of the this event.
"EventID : 4097
The application, C:\Program Files\CVSNT\cvs.exe, generated an
application error The error occurred on 02/21/2007 @ 12:07:45.503 The
exception generated was c0000005 at address 0044D6B2 (cvs)"
So I will try to find what causes this error.
Any idea what could be the cause?
Thanks again,
Gabriel

I've an occasion problem (btw, we're still back on 2.0.38 server)
running a
large diff on a machine. I've run this diff nightly for a long, long
time,
it's only recently it's started occasionally failing with this server
socket
error. The directory (and subs) it's diffing does steadily grow (it's a
wiki
repository), so maybe it's just a question of resources on the server?
Not
sure. Sometimes it works, and, using FileMon, when it fails it doesn't
always fail in the same place.
Should I try to work around this by not doing one uber diff at the top
level
dir and break it down into smaller diffs? Or is this a sign of a bigger
problem on the server?

Hi,
A lot of .dmp files are created in the CVS temporary directory.
The names of the files looks like
"cvsnt-2.5.03.2382-servername-xxxxxxxxxxx-small.dmp"
Nothing has change on the server before the files began to appear.
Any idea what those file means?
Thanks

It means the server has started crashing. Take a look at the times that
it happens, and try to figure out what's going on -- crashes are pretty
rare now, and typically caused by bad drivers. However, "nothing" has
changed, look to automatic updates or hardware failures.

To workaround the problem, I would say that sounds reasonable. The
bigger problem would be that something is interrupting communications,
something that doesn't like big temp files... Are you running a Win box
with a real-time AV scanner perhaps?
